What are the latest COVID variants?

The latest COVID variants are Eris, Fornax, and Arcturus. Both Fornax and Eris share a mutation, which makes them more contagious than other variants. However, there’s still no evidence that these variants would cause more serious symptoms than other variants we’ve seen in the past. As far as Arcurus goes, it also has a high risk of transmissibility and the chance of escaping our immune response.

Another significantly mutated strain on the rise is BA.2.86, commonly known as Pirola. At this point, there aren’t many cases caused by this variant yet, but because of the high number of mutations in important parts of this virus, the WHO and experts are keeping a close eye on it.

After assessing this variant, the CDC concluded that the current existing tests to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus and medications used to treat COVID seem to be effective with this variant.

Wrapping up

In 2023, COVID-19 is still a global health concern, with the XBB. 1.5 variant continues to be the most dominant strain. The symptoms it causes are similar to those of previous COVID variants.

High-risk groups for the coronavirus stay the same as in the last few years, and it’s important to continue to take preventative measures like vaccinations and mask-wearing when in large crowds. Some people also became interested in eating immunity-booster meals, and here’s a recipe book that’s packed with ideas to draw inspiration from.
