Dietary changes
Salty and other sodium-rich foods can easily cause the body to retain water. In these cases, cutting down on salty foods could help minimize water retention.
Foods that are high in potassium could also help reduce water retention. Some foods high in potassium include almonds and pistachio nuts, lentils, white beans, potatoes, leafy veggies, and fish, like salmon and tuna.
Foods that are high in fiber can keep your bowels moving and further prevent constipation. This is particularly important because straining could further aggravate damaged valves or make them even worse.
Some foods high in fiber could also include nuts, seeds, legumes, oats, wheat, and flaxseed. Naturally, whole-grain foods also work.
