How Your Body Changes and What You Can Do
Feeling tired from medication can be especially challenging because our bodies are already going through natural changes. As we enter our golden years, it’s common to experience a gradual decrease in muscle mass, a condition known as sarcopenia. Our metabolism may slow down, and our joints might feel a bit stiffer than they used to.
Please don’t see these changes as a sign of decline. Instead, think of them as your body’s way of asking for a different kind of care. It’s an invitation to be more mindful, gentle, and intentional with how we move and nourish ourselves.
When medication-induced fatigue is added to the mix, it can create a difficult cycle. You feel tired, so you move less. When you move less, your muscles weaken, and your joints get stiffer. This can make you feel even more tired and less motivated to be active. It’s a frustrating loop!
But here is the wonderful news: you have the power to break that cycle. The antidote to fatigue is not always rest; often, it’s gentle, mindful movement. By engaging in safe, appropriate physical activity, you send a powerful signal to your body. You tell your muscles to stay strong, your joints to remain flexible, and your heart to keep pumping efficiently. This, in turn, generates more energy, creating a new, positive cycle.
